Care for Amaryllis Plants

Extend the flowering life of your amaryllis plant by providing diffused light and keeping it in a cool location (60-65 degrees). Water once per week or whenever the soil feels dry to the touch.
When the blooms have shriveled they may be cut off one by one until the entire stem is finished flowering.  Then cut the flower stem as low as possible, close to the bulb. A second flower stalk and leaves may be growing by this point.
Continue to water as normal all summer, allowing the leaves to fully develop and grow. The plant will benefit from being set outdoors for the summer. When the  leaves begin to yellow, normally in fall, cut the leaves back and stop watering the plant. Store the plant, dry, in a cool spot for 2 months. Re-pot in fresh soil and growth should begin again.
